Canada’s provinces agree to push energy strategy

August 10, 2007

Looks like Canada’s provincial Premiers are a lot smarter than the Prime Minister! Stephen Harper is a Bush puppet and has adopted energy and environmental policies that are carbon copies of the USA’s, meaning they are disastrous, irresponsible and misleading. Good thing the Provinces are not following his lead. Now I’d like to see California-style incentives for renewable energy installations and grid-tie interconnectivity. CALGARY, Alberta (Reuters) – The premiers of Canada’s provinces and territories agreed on Thursday...

The Truth About Denial

August 6, 2007

This article by Sharon Begley in the August 13th edition of Newsweek provides a nice analysis and detailed timeline of the climate denial movement in the USA. It is long, but well worth reading. Here’s an extract: Since the late 1980s, this well-coordinated, well-funded campaign by contrarian scientists, free-market think tanks and industry has created a paralyzing fog of doubt around climate change. Through advertisements, op-eds, lobbying and media attention, greenhouse doubters (they hate being...

The Ethanol Scam

August 1, 2007

Here’s an excellent article from Rolling Stone Magazine on the ethanol boondoggle. This is nothing new, there are piles of information out there showing that ethanol from corn is a very bad idea. But ethanol makes Americans feel like they are doing something good without changing their comsumption habits, and nothing will stop farmers and energy companies for participating in this cash grab either.

US silently released their latest Climate Action Report last Friday

August 1, 2007

The US Governmnet used the old tactic of releasing an important report late on Friday, so it would get little to no press attention, and it worked. Looking at the report, it’s not surprising at all. It is proof positive of the Bush Administration’s total failure to curb greenhouse gas emissions, and it also describes the potential disaster that is likely to resul from that ineptitude. Another clear example of this Administration’s sneakiness. From...

Eco-junk

July 24, 2007

Goerge Monbiot goes on a rampage denouncing the so-called “green-living” illusion, and as usual, he doesn’t mince words or spare anyone, including his own newspaper The Guardian. Read his op-ed piece here.

You Can’t Spin Mother Nature

July 24, 2007

Here’s an excellent speech given to the Canadian Public Relations Society’s National Conference by James Hoggan. In this speech, Hoggan does a brilliant job of exposing what some of his cohorts have been doing (confusing the public on important issues like global warming) and the damage it is doing to the reputation of PR Firms. This speech was given in oil-rich Alberta, of all places, and he was expecting a lot of push back....

Are we coming up to a climate tipping point?

July 3, 2007

In this article, George Monbiot discusses the fact that three recent scientific papers point out that climate change is accelerating and that we may be on the brink of a “flip” in the climate that will bring much faster warming and sea level rise than the IPCC predicted in its latest report. He also talks about the need for a similar “flip” in public opinion and in government courage before we can actually do...

Debunking the “Great Swindle”

May 3, 2007

Ever since the “Great Global Warming Swindle” came out, some of my contrarian readers have repeatedly pointed to it as proof that Global Warming is a hoax, and I have repeatedly pointed out the producer’s past “swindles”, as well as the lack of credibility of most of the “scientists” they used, and the fact that one of the real scientists was actually sueing them for misrepresentation. Well, two more scientists have stepped forward to...
