NASA: April tied for 4th hottest on record globally « Climate Progress. NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies has released its monthly global temperature data.  It reveals that there is no April in the temperature record before 2005 that was warmer than April 2011. And that’s in spite of the fact that we are still in the tail end of a major La Niña and just coming out of “the deepest solar minimum in nearly a...

Canada sees staggering mildness as planet’s high-presure record is “obliterated” « Climate Progress

The disinformers and many in the media love to focus on where it is cold in the winter.  It has been cool where many people live.  Brr! Unfortunately for homo sapiens, it’s been staggeringly warm where the ice is.  I’ll do a post on Greenland shortly, but the NSF-sponsored researchers at UCAR/NCAR  have posted some staggering data on just how warm it has been in northern Canada: To put this picture into even sharper...

Hurricane, Oil Spill Could Be Troubling Mix

May 27, 2010
Hurricane, Oil Spill Could Be Troubling Mix

If a hurricane encounters the oil slick now covering parts of the Gulf of Mexico, the result could be devastating, scientists say. Not only could any hurricane increase the damage that oil does to coastal wetlands, but the presence of oil could lead to a more powerful hurricane, they say. Nobody knows for sure, though, because there's no record of a hurricane ever crossing paths with a large oil spill. Trouble Brewing The Atlantic...

Study: Warming may cut US hurricane hits

January 23, 2008

A new study to be published this week shows that increased wind shear might actually mean that global warming will result in less hurricanes. This is highly controversial and most climatologists disagree with this finding. I think the trend over the last 20 years has been pretty clear that hurricanes are getting stronger and more frequent, although it is true that we do not have a long enough record of hurricane tracking to draw...

Bangladesh facing mayhem from Sidr

Bangladesh facing mayhem from Sidr

There is a potential category 5 cyclone heading straight for poor and low-lying Bangladesh, and not a single western media outlet has reported yet. We should be getting ready to assist the millions of people who will need help, instead, our governments are sitting on their hands and the media outlets are ignoring it. It’s not interesting news until it is actually a disaster.

More severe thunderstorms to come with global warming, NASA says

September 1, 2007

A new study by NASA shows that the USA will likely suffer from more frequent and stronger thunderstorms and tornadoes as the climate becomes hotter and wetter. The basic ingredients for whopper U.S. inland storms are likely to be more plentiful in a warmer, moister world, said lead author Tony Del Genio, a NASA research scientist. And when that happens, watch out. “The strongest thunderstorms, the strongest severe storms and tornadoes are likely to...

Panel: Climate change will hurt Africa

May 14, 2007

By BRANDON REED, Associated Press Writer Mon May 14, 4:40 PM ET JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Global warming isn’t just a matter of melting icebergs and polar bears chasing after them. It’s also Lake Chad drying up, the glaciers of Mt. Kilimanjaro disappearing, increasing extreme weather, conflict and hungry people throughout Africa. According to a landmark effort to assess the risks of global warming, Africa — by far the lowest emitter of greenhouse gases...
