This is a good article that discusses the sudden dye-off of the bees, which is puttung one third of North American agriculture at risk because famers have come to rely on this single specie of pollinators. Overexploitation of our planet

Overexploitation of our planet

We humans are so stupid we keep overexploiting all of our precious resources. We are rapidly depleting oil resources and causing Global Warming in the process; we are destroying our forests, the lungs of our planet; we have decimated most of the medium to large species of mammals; we are doing the same thing to sea-life, our most precious source of food, and most people don’t even realize it since those poor sea creatures...

Bush Administration Moves To Gut Endangered Species Act

April 1, 2007

This is shocking, but it is not the first time that Bush moves against Endangered Species protection. They are going to stop anything that might have an impact on varius interest groups or corporate profits. They also clearly do not understand the impact that disapearing speies have on our environment and long-term survival. From The Sietch Blog… A secret draft of regulations (pdf) that would fundamentally rewrite the Endangered Species Act was leaked to two environmental organizations, which provided...

The Biofuel Illusion

March 27, 2007

I’ve always been opposed to the use of various crops for producing biofuels. While they sound good on the surface, when you look at them more closely it is easy to see that they entail more drawbacks than benefits. Various studies show that ethanol...

Reports of ExxonMobil’s Reform Prove Premature

February 14, 2007

Well it looks like ExxonMobil’s CEO is still clinging on the little percentage of doubt that remains as to how climate chage will play out in order to continue his policy of denial. This is sad, and shows a lot of shortsightedness. I guess he doesn’t want his stock price to to go down just before he cashes in for his retirement. This is one of the problems with publc companies being managed quarter...

Another Species of Denial

January 30, 2007

The Bush administration will do anything except cut the consumption of fuel. By George Monbiot. Published in the Guardian 30th January 2007. George Bush proposes to deal with climate change by means of smoke and mirrors. So what’s new? Only that it is no longer just a metaphor. After six years of obfuscation and denial, the US government now insists that we find ways to block some of the sunlight reaching the earth. This means...

Organic Farming to Reduce Global Warming?

January 25, 2007

According to this article by Stephen Leahy, organic farming can greatly reduce green house gas emissions, and it creates crops that are more resistent to the impact of global warming. Sounds like a win-win situation to me!

More refreshing news from the USA

January 24, 2007

The State of Virginia  just released a report on climate change and the threats it poses for the State. It even calls fo the creation of a commission to study the problem. It is even more suprising that the report was created by a group of 10 scientists, industry representatives, and environmentalists. Sounds like the US may finally be coming around on the issue of Global Warming. Better late then never.
