James Inhofe: The Senator for Suspect Science

Check out this great post  on DeSmogBlog debunking Inhofe’s list of “hundreds” of “scientists” denying anthropogenic climate change. Inhofe is a disgrace to America and should be ousted for his lack of integrity andfor lying in front of yet another enquiry. In the same vein, check out this list of the 61 signatories to a letter that was sent to Canada’s Prime Minister urging him to wait for more “research” before taking action on...

Former White House official doctored global-warming reports to undercut scientific findings

March 20, 2007

From DeSmogBlog: Philip Cooney, former chief of staff at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, has acknowledged at a House hearing some of the changes he made were “to align these communications with the administration’s stated policy” on climate change. Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the House Government Reform Committee, said “my concern is that there was a concerted White House effort to inject uncertainty into the climate debate.” Waxman’s committee also...

A Global Warming Swindle

March 13, 2007

Channel 4 in the UK produced what can only be called a true work of fiction and propaganda and peddling it as a documentary “debunking” climate change science. It’s too bad that we do not have censorship of outright lies and twisting of the truth on TV. Here’s a couple of excellent articles explaining everything that is wrong with this “crapumentary”: A Global Warming Swindle play-by-play Channel 4′s Problem with Science

The Christian Right Joins the Denial Machine

March 7, 2007

Leaders of the Christian Right, in an obvious bow to the political right and their oil buddies, have written a letter that attempts to silence Richard Cizik, the policy director of the National Association of Evangelicals. Cizik has been very vocal in encouraging evangelicals to get more actively involved in the fight against global warming, and that is upsetting the more hypocritical factions of the Christian Right. What is their excuse for trying to...

Reports of ExxonMobil’s Reform Prove Premature

February 14, 2007

Well it looks like ExxonMobil’s CEO is still clinging on the little percentage of doubt that remains as to how climate chage will play out in order to continue his policy of denial. This is sad, and shows a lot of shortsightedness. I guess he doesn’t want his stock price to to go down just before he cashes in for his retirement. This is one of the problems with publc companies being managed quarter...

Exxon changes from one type of denial to another

February 12, 2007

Exxon-Mobil, the most active and biggest funder of climate change denial organizations has now changed its mind. In the face of the latest IPCC repot, they no longer deny that anthropogenic climate change his happening. I guess this explains why the White House has also stopped denying climate change. However, they both are now denying that they ever denied climate change! (But I haven’t heard Fox News change its tune yet.) This is hilarious. But at least...

The dangers of unconditional religious beliefs

February 12, 2007

I’ve long thought that literal and unconditional beliefs in the truth of scriptures was a dangerous thing. That’s how you get things like witch hunts, people flying airplanes into buildings, and political leaders justifying their wars in the name of god. But here’s a new twist on this danger, one of potentially global impact (thanks to Stranger Fruit): Chis Allen is a weatherman for WKBO in Kentucky. He is also an idiot. Witness: My...

Liar, Liar: Timothy Ball

February 6, 2007

A letter from Timothy Ball has been posted on a free WordPress blog, and of course, with comments turned-off. I suspect that he took Exxon’s cash offer. This letter just rehashes the same old baseless arguments we have been hearing from the denial movement for years. The fact remains that Tim Ball has been debunked many times, including in a report by CBC’s The Fifth Estate. Fact is that Dr. Ball is a retired...

The White House and the Scientists

January 30, 2007

Hot on the trails of a KGB-like move by the White House to control its scientific agencies, today was the beginning of Senate hearings into alleged manipulations of science reports by the Bush Administration. Shocking, really. And this is supposed to be the most civilized, free, and democratic country in the world? Mass delusion is more like it. WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. scientists felt pressured to tailor their writings on global warming to fit...
