The Night Shift

November 30, 2007

Here’s an excellent article by Keith Farnish of The Earth Blog. In this blog entry he discusses how moving some of your electricity consumption to the wee hours of the night can greatly reduce the overall electricity production capacity that needs to be constantly “on-line”. Well worth reading here.

US coiuld cut CO2 emissions as much as 50% and not feel a pinch.

November 30, 2007

I always believed that it is possible to make huge cuts in CO2 emissions without huge economic costs by adopting energy consumption reductions, new more efficient technologies, and renewable energy sources. Many European countries and corporations are already proving it. It just makes sense: you reduce your energy consumption, you save money! And as in any other time in history where there’s been a paradigm change in the way we live, there’s been countless...

The UN and Science

November 23, 2007

Jon, a recent commenter to this site whom I had to cut-off because of his political polemic and grossly misinformed statements, made an interesting comment yesterday. I’m not letting his comments through but I thought this point was worth debating. Jon asserts from the recent declaration by the UN (an organization he obviously despises) that they had overestimated the number of AIDS victims worldwide, proves that they cannot be trusted, and therefore the IPCC...

NASA stonewalls another US agency that wants to launch DSCOVR

November 20, 2007

Reposted from DeSmogBlog It has now been several months since the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) formally requested that NASA transfer to them all DSCOVR assets – including of course the spacecraft itself. The response from NASA? Nothing. Nada. Zippo. Incredibly, NASA has so far completely ignored colleagues from another US government agency that want to make use of a $100 million spacecraft that NASA themselves stated last year they have no intention...

Bangladesh facing mayhem from Sidr

Bangladesh facing mayhem from Sidr

There is a potential category 5 cyclone heading straight for poor and low-lying Bangladesh, and not a single western media outlet has reported yet. We should be getting ready to assist the millions of people who will need help, instead, our governments are sitting on their hands and the media outlets are ignoring it. It’s not interesting news until it is actually a disaster.

Hillary Clinton’s climate and energy plan

November 13, 2007

Finally, a US Presidential candidate takes a strong stance on Climate Change and realizes the potential it presents to create jobs and bring her country out of a gigantic slump. I hope she gets rewarded for it, and that she will deliver the goods. Read the full article…

Biofuels: An Agricultural Crime Against Humanity

November 6, 2007

I’ve long been speaking out against the tragedy that is the push for biofuels. Today George Monbiot comes out strongly against this new fad in “green” energy. I have already seen the effects of these food crops being used for fuels, and the increase in food prices in places like Panama. Read Monbiot’s editorial here.
